He was born in 1949 in Taşucu, Mersin. He completed high school at Tevfik Sırrı Gür High School. He studied at Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine from 1966 to 1972. He completed his internal medicine residency at Gülhane Military Medical Faculty in 1981 and his cardiology residency in 1985. He worked at Mersin State Hospital from 1986 to 2008. In 2010, he began working as a cardiology and internal medicine specialist at the Private Mersin System Surgical Medical Center.
