If we gain the right hand washing habit in terms of person and community health, we will be protected from many infectious diseases. In proper hand washing, hands should be rubbed with plenty of water and soap for at least 15-20 seconds. Fingerprints, palms, nails should be cleaned thoroughly. When should the hands be washed?
Before preparing food, before and after eating, touching uncooked food (especially meat, chicken, fish, eggs), touching spoiled food and garbage, after using the toilet, after changing children’s diapers, with upper respiratory secretions after contact (sneezing, coughing, etc.), before and after contact with the patient, after the use of common means in the community (public transport, money exchange, telephone, etc.), contact with cats, dogs and all other animals then we must wash our hands correctly and on time. In this period when the weather begins to cool down and upper respiratory tract infections increase, it is important to wash the hands frequently and correctly, maintaining hand hygiene after contact with infected materials and preventing infectious diseases.
