Pain Treatment with Mesotherapy
Pain Treatment with Mesotherapy
Alper Uckun, M.D.

Mesotherapy is a treatment method in which special mixtures of medications are injected into the skin layer using fine needles. Although it is widely known for its cosmetic applications, it has also been effectively used in pain management for many years.

It is considered a very safe option, especially for elderly patients, those taking multiple medications, or individuals at risk of developing side effects such as high blood pressure or gastrointestinal issues. Since mesotherapy delivers medication directly to the affected area, the dose required is significantly lower compared to oral or intramuscular/intravenous treatments, yet it provides effective relief.

Because it is a localized therapy using very low doses of medication, systemic side effects such as elevated blood pressure, stomach pain, nausea, or deterioration in blood values are generally not expected.

In mesotherapy, corticosteroids (commonly known as cortisone)—frequently used in musculoskeletal disorders—are not utilized. Instead, customized mixtures containing vitamins, anti-inflammatory agents, muscle relaxants, local anesthetics, and antispasmodics are prepared and injected using very fine needles, typically ranging between 4 and 13 mm in length.

The treatment is performed in sessions scheduled at specific intervals depending on the patient’s condition. It is commonly applied for a wide range of problems, including arthrosis, meniscus injuries, knee, elbow, and shoulder joint pain, as well as lower back, neck, and upper back pain.

Mesotherapy, which has been safely practiced worldwide for decades, is also performed in Türkiye by certified physicians authorized by the Ministry of Health following specialized training and examinations.
