Our Cardiology Specialist Dr. Süreyya Uygun specified that heart health shouldn’t be neglected. Dr. Uygun said that blood pressure and diabetes, smoking, alcohol use, high cholesterol, sedentary life and excess weight threaten heart health.
He warned citizens about heart health and explained what should be done to have a healthy heart. Emphasizing that heart health should never be neglected, Uygun said, “Overweight is one of the most important factors threatening heart health. In order to have a healthy heart, you should absolutely get rid of your excess weight. It also reduces the size of the heart by lowering blood pressure, especially when the person lost weight from the abdomen.” Dr. Uygun said that by stopping only the consumption of salt without medication, high blood pressure can reach normal levels.
ATTENTION TO DIABETES
Saying that diabetes affects heart health negatively, Dr. Uygun said, “Values such as blood sugar, good-bad cholesterol and blood pressure should be kept at certain levels in the protection of heart health. Especially pregnant women, overweight people and individuals over the age of 40 should have their blood sugar measured regularly. Diabetes is one of the biggest enemies of the heart and everyone should have a measurement of diabetes once a year, even if there are no symptoms ”.
Dr. Uygun also said that smoking, which is one of the main causes of vascular stiffness, is one of the main risk factors of heart disease. In his words: “Smoking for a long time can lead to coronary artery narrowing and cardiac muscle disease, independent of narrowing in vascular stiffness. The direct poisoning effect of cigarette smoke on the heart muscle has also been proven by research. People who are non-smokers but passive smokers also have the same risk. For this reason, non-smokers should also not be in a smoking environment. ”
