What is Audiometry?
Audiometry refers to a set of tests used to measure hearing function and diagnose hearing disorders. In other words, it encompasses all tests related to the ear and hearing.
Why Are Audiometric Tests Performed?
Audiometric tests are conducted to detect hearing loss that may result from:
- Hearing impairment
- Ear infections
- General or hereditary diseases
- Various injuries
- Aging-related causes
Hearing problems may also stem from dysfunction in the outer ear, middle ear, inner ear, auditory nerves, or the central nervous system. Fortunately, with the help of modern technology, these issues can now be effectively diagnosed and treated.

How is the test performed?
Pure-tone audiometry measures the minimum and maximum sound intensity levels the ears can detect. Conducted in a soundproof environment, the audiometrist sends sound waves, and the patient presses a button upon hearing them.
This test provides information on both air conduction (from the outer ear to the brain) and bone conduction (through vibrations transmitted via the skull), helping identify the source of the hearing issue accurately.
